An article about the Aug. 21, 2017 All-American Transcontinental Total Solar Eclipse by Richard Monda, an instructor in the Biology, Chemistry and Physics Department, is published in the September 2019 issue of the “Griffith Observer,” a publication of the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles, CA.
Monda’s account of his first-hand observance of the total solar eclipse while at Glendo, Wyoming earned an honorable mention in the sixth Joan and Arnold Seidel Griffith Observer Science Writing Contest.
The article is titled, “Chasing the Moon’s Shadow Again, Another Totally Awesome Experience (the Sequel).” An account of Monda’s first eclipse trip to see the Aruba total solar eclipse on Feb. 26, 1998 also received an honorable mention in this science writing contest and was published in the Griffith Observer in 1999. That’s why it’s called “the sequel.” But the “Griffith Observer” editor apparently took liberties with the title, calling it “a sequel — Son of a Totally Awesome Experience.”
There is no digital version of the “Griffith Observer.” A nearly identical article was published in The Sunday Gazette (Schenectady) on Sept. 24, 2017.
